and stopping in Tokyo, will we have to pick up our luggage and go through customs before we board for Singapore? Also, read that if you have packaged snacks you have to leave them on the plane in Japan as you get off, anyone know anything about this? Thanks

If you want an official response, call Japan Airlines and ask them direct.:)

This thread reminded me of the one time we went through Tokyo on our way to Singapore. Unlike many other airports we had to go through security before getting to our gate for our connecting flight. We put our carry-ons on the conveyor...and suddenly there was a lot of discussion among the security folks who quickly pulled DW and I aside. One security lady was apologizing and bowing as she said they needed to search our hand luggage. We immediately said OK, and we got more bows and thank yous (in both English and Japanese). They then searched our luggage and found a portable hair dryer which looked like a gun on their X-Ray. We then got more apologies and smiles....and they had me feeling bad because we had ruined their day.

P.S, We are again flying to Singapore in a few days...but this time we are changing planes in Taiwan :).

You are travelling to 2 separate countries.

If you are just in transit in Tokyo (as in staying inside the airport "airside" waiting for your flight to Singapore Changi airport, then NO, you clear customs and immigration at your final destination, in your case, Singapore.

If you are staying in Tokyo for any period of time (meaning exiting the airport) then YES, you will clear customs and immigration in both Tokyo and then again upon arrival in Singapore.

As long as your luggage is tagged for SIN then you won't have to collect it. You will have to go through security again in Tokyo even if your just changing planes. You will have to toss away any liquids over 100ml. Duty Free purchases are OK if in the sealed tamper proof bags. Snacks in unopened original packaging is perfectly fine.

You can often find us at a bar :). Princess had a terrific Business Class price out of JFK which made booking our air a very easy decision. See you aboard :).
