My Sunshine Review May 5-13 2018

This cruise was mine and my husbands 9th cruise all with Carnival but one. I really liked the Sunshine although to me it seems to have more movement and rocking than any other ship I have been on, but the weather on the first full day was NOT great, it was rainy and windy but the movement still continued even when weather improved.

Mikey was our Cruise Director and was the best cruise director I have sailed with. He was everywhere and had energy out the roof. This cruise was his first on the Sunshine he had just returned from vacation he used to be on I think the Fantasy.

We went to some comedy shows they were great and yes the lounge where they have comedy is small but we always got in and only once sat on the side with TV screens just try to get there about 20 minutes early. We also went to several shows Epic Rock was the best. We watched 2 dive in movies they were great.

In the past we have always had early dining but this time we tried your time dining we really liked it and will do it again. We just checked in on deck 5 and got a ticket and went down to deck 3 Aft and we were seated we never had to wait. We ate in Lido one night the other nights in the dining room. We did not eat at any pay for places this cruise.

Loved the Havana Bar area in the back of Lido deck that is where we ate most mornings and at lunch we would get our food and take it back there. And the bartenders back there are great too.

I will say that it was hard to find chairs on the Lido on sea days and only once did we get a chair on Serenity but we did sleep in on sea days so maybe if you are an early riser you can find one.

Mikey had a great 80's trivia(party) in the Lobby the last night.

Sunshine has a Shakespot and those milk shakes are great.

I would gladly cruise the Sunshine again I was a little worried from all the bad reviews but I think you should try it for yourself because you will be missing out on a great ship and a great cruise director and a great time.

Thanks for the review! I was hesitant to try the Sunshine back in 2015, but after that cruise I really didn't see what all the negative fuss was about! I have since sailed her 2 more times, with 1 more time booked for when she moves to Charleston! I agree about it being hard to find a seat on Lido on sea days, but there are other areas to go enjoy. :)

I was also on that cruise, LOVED IT! The food was much better this year than when we were on it last year! Everyone was so friendly and we had a blast! Had a bit of luck in the casino too which made it even better! Racked up a ton of points (12000), hope it brings some future perks!

We sail on her next month. We were on her as Destiny many years ago. I know she has the lowest rating of all Carnival ships, but I also know we'll have a great time. I'm prepared for crowds - that seems to be one of the biggest complaints (not too surprising, since they took away some public space and replaced with additional cabins, meaning more passengers in less space).

I agree with all above. But if you go near the casino the smoke was intense. We do gamble and the casino was the worsted, concerning the smoke, we have ever experienced. This was our 13th cruise. No place for smokes to go, inside, except the casino/bar area it seems.

I couldn't agree with you more about the rocking and vibration of this ship:

This was my 25th cruise and it's the 1st time I am saying never again to a ship.

Starting with day 2 I felt sick from the motion of the ship. Even in my lower deck mid-ship cabin [2175]

I could feel the constant rolling of the ship. I've never had such a feeling. During the cruise I came across 8 other people who felt the same way and all of us were multiple cruisers. Now I know 8 out of 3004 is not a high percentage but it's enough to keep me on other ships and not the 'destiny class' ships.

Thankfully my companion had no problems with the ship motion.

Also the casino must be walked through to get from front to back of the ship.

Unless you want to go up or down a deck and work your way through. Smoke from the casino could be smelled in the atrium area as the casino entrance was only feet away with no doors or air machine. I noticed they ran an air purifier at the back of the casino.
