Belize help me! Lamanai or other suggestions?

Hey Guys,

I need help with plans forBelize. We have not been on a cruise in a couple of years and have 2 adventurousteenagers. We are going on the CaribbeanPrincess on June 30th. Wehave already done the cave tubing and will probably snorkel at some of the otherstops. We were looking at Lamanai withthe ruins and tour. Has anyone done thisor have a completely different suggestion? Not sure who to book through either. Thanks! :cool::cool:

My wife and I did Lamanai a few years ago through the cruise line. It was fantastic and that’s from someone who just doesn’t take ship excursions. So good that we sent our college age kids on it a couple of months later. It’s a full day and the river trip is super cool but I would not have been comfortable taking a private excursion because of the time and distance.YMMV

Does Princess offer an Altun Ha ruins and river cruise tour option? If so, I can recommend that one, I took it through Celebrity. I do not remember now why I chose that one over Lemani, but I was happy with the results

 

Altun Ha is a little closer than Lemani, but still a great day. You take a nice air conditioned bus ride there (60 - 90 minutes, maybe?) , with knowledgeable guide pointing out stuff along the way.

He then takes you through the ruins, with time allowed to climb up one if you want.

 

Then, to a rather rustic restaurant for lunch, and then the return trip is by boat on the river , seeing all sorts of animals and native life,.

 

It's a long, hot day, but great fun and so interesting. There were a few teens and tweens along the day I went and they loved it.

If your kids are into snorkeling they need to snorkel Belize and Roatan

Thanks for all of the replies. They have been really helpful. Any additional advice is appreciated. We will consider the snorkeling and Altun Ha in addition to Lamanai. We still have a few weeks to decide, but I need to start narrowing down my options. Thanks again.

I went to Lamanai about 10 years ago. Very interesting place. It's a long trip via bus and boat. Was not on a cruiseline excursion but made it back on time.

I take that back. End of june will be Houston/New Orleans hot so you want to be in the water.
