hoenichj Posted May 30, 2018 #1 Share Posted May 30, 2018 Trying to book the Van Gogh Museum. Does anyone have an idea at what time we can get off the ship in Amsterdam if it docks at 8am. This is a 2 day stop before Bruges. Thanks! Judy:)

hoenichj Posted May 31, 2018 Author #6 Share Posted May 31, 2018 Thanks, Ine. Would you suggest a taxi/uber or the public transit system - if timing is the only consideration? Judy
Ine Posted May 31, 2018 #7 Share Posted May 31, 2018 Thanks, Ine. Would you suggest a taxi/uber or the public transit system - if timing is the only consideration? Judy Uber will be more comfortable of course. However people often love taking public transport too. Take tramnr. 26 to Centraal Station and change to tramnr. 2 to Museumplein. Trams are cashless nowadays, but you can use a creditcard, buy tickets at machines or sometimes inside the trams. . Also inside the cruise terminal often is a kiosk to get information and tickets. On the way back note you take tramnr 2 with destination Centraal Station or you will go to a different part in town!

Rare itsanita Posted June 9, 2018 #9 Share Posted June 9, 2018 We will be in Amsterdam this August. We are planning to walk to the Van Gogh Museum on a Sunday morning from our rented canal house for a 9am visit. We love to walk, and according to google maps it is only about a 1 1/2 miles. My question is about the route that google map suggests. We are staying on Herengracht. It has us walking Herengracht, taking a right onto Nieuwe Speigelstraat that turns into Speigelstraat, past the Rijk museum to the Van Gogh. Is this a safe walk, side walks etc? Looking at a map, it looks like we could also walk to Dam Square and follow Kalvefstraat toward Nieuwe Spiegelstraat and on to the museum. Any suggestions for a nice route for our morning walk to the museum? And is there anywhere to have breakfast near the museum around 8am on a Sunday morning ? As always, thanks for the help. Ine Posted June 9, 2018 #10 Share Posted June 9, 2018 All streets in Amsterdam, in fact in The Netherlands ((apart from highways etc.) have sidewalks. Kalverstraat is a pedestrian zone, no cars. Walking along the canals is always nice, but there are cars parked along the canals and cars passing by. Why not change the route going and coming back. Tripadvisor gives this link for breakfastplaces near Museumplein: https://www.tripadvisor.nl/Restaurants-g188590-zfn29411-zfp2-Amsterdam_North_Holland_Province.html
