Is the dress relaxed for men on Formal nights. Do men need a coat and tie in MDR? Traveling with family of 6 and need to pack layers. I do not want to eat dinner at the buffet. Please advise anyone back from recent Alaska Cruise.

We will be on the Ruby the week after you. This is our 3rd Princess Alaska cruise. We've found 'formal' night dress on Alaska cruises much more relaxed than cruises in other locations. I have advised my son and son-in-law to wear nice slacks, shoes, dress shirt and tie (since that takes up no space). DH will probably wear a sport coat too if he can fit it in the suitcase. Our daughter and daughter-in-law are wearing cocktail dresses and I will wear a long black skirt with a beaded top. The 3 1/2 year old granddaughter wants to wear her frilly outfit from her dance recital. Have a wonderful cruise!
