PBI to POM, transportation ?

We are sailing out of POM 12/22/18. We will fly into PBI late the night before. Our plan is to stay in that area and then drive to POM Saturday morning, departure day. If we rent a car at the PBI airport, is it best to return it to the airport in Miami versus a location closer to port? Does either return option offer a shuttle to POM? There will be four of us and luggage.

On the return, we again depart PBI but later in the afternoon. While we will not be rushed, we do need a plan in place for a rental car... again, better to rent at the Miami airport? What is the option from POM to get back to the airport (or other rental location, ? shuttle)

Thanks for any advice!

National, Alamo, Thrifty and Enterprise include shuttles between their MIA airport location and POM. This option saves from experiencing the "fun" of downtown Miami traffic. ;) If you get a good deal from someone else at MIA a taxi will cost $27+tip or you can Uber for about $20

Hertz, Avis and others have locations in downtown Miami, close to POM. Most offer shuttles or you can taxi for about $12 (or Uber for under $10).

You might also look at using Tri-Rail from PBI to MIA and then taxi/Uber to POM. Brightline train service is another new option worth exploring.

You can rent a car but I think that the train is a very good option.

From PBI, cheaper option would be Tri Rails that will take you to Miami International Airport where you can either board a shuttle or Uber/Lyft to Port Miami. http://www.tri-rail.com

Best option, but a little more expensive than Tri Rail, is the new Brightline train to downtown Miami.

The station is within walking distance of Port Miami or 2 minutes ride with Uber. https://gobrightline.com
