WeLuv2Cruz13 Posted June 8, 2018 Author #3 Share Posted June 8, 2018 (edited) Miami? Since you claim JFK. Taxis are lined up across the street from the port. Right. Is the Manhatten port similar to Miami and are they flat rate like they are there? Trying to decide whether to do taxi or private service to JFK. Rare mking8288 Posted June 8, 2018 #4 Share Posted June 8, 2018 (edited) NYC's licensed yellow taxi are usually based on metered rate - exception is trips to JFK Airport from anywhere in the borough (county) of Manhattan, including MCT where you are disembarking - make sure the taxi meter is working & running, the Rate Plan is #2 - flat rate of $52 currently for this trip, plus a 80 cents surcharge, other rush hour or peak surcharges should NOT apply in your case. The most likely route is via the Queens-Midtown Tunnel, which has tolls both way, you are responsible for the EZ-Pass rate of $5.76 currently, that the passengers are responsible for as, added fare to be collected. http://www.nyc.gov/html/tlc/html/passenger/taxicab_rate.shtml The taxi stand is across 12th Avenue on the SE corner of W. 48th Street, on the opposite of the pedestrian exit from the MCT/Pier 88 with traffic lights & a safety island in the middle of the wide 12th Avenue for those that walk slower & often cannot make it safely all the way across, with stopping. This picture was taken as we stood at the Taxi Stand as a taxi-van was leaving, a taxi dispatcher is usually on duty on ship days. Do NOT accept offers from strangers or anyone claiming to take you around the corner and skipping the taxi lines. If you manage to leave/disembark early enough and use the optional porter services, they will sometimes take you upstairs to arrival, where sometimes - not always - a short line of taxis are waiting in queue (after they dropped off passeners - and depending on port security status, allowed to remain & stay briefly to pickup arriving cruisers with luggage) Edited June 8, 2018 by mking8288
WeLuv2Cruz13 Posted June 8, 2018 Author #5 Share Posted June 8, 2018 Thank you for info. Starting to get think I should just do carnival transfer or private service. About same price with no surprises.
Rare mking8288 Posted June 8, 2018 #6 Share Posted June 8, 2018 ... Starting to get think I should just do carnival transfer or private service. About same price with no surprises.Only if you are traveling "solo" (referenced new post you've started) inbound @LGA and outbound @JFK with "plenty of time" in between. You would need to find somewhere to sit, wait & watch your luggage until CCL's transfer bus is ready to board and leave on the day of embarkation - and, LGA isn't a fun or nice place to hang around with all the ongoing, long-term constructions and occasional traffic congestion, mostly inside the airport's access roads these days, with new highway entry/exit ramps being built. What if your inbound flight is delayed - will CCL's transfer bus still wait for you ? Do you have trip interruption insurance if weather/traffic/etc. resulted in missing the sailing ? Also, I am not sure if the transfer bus will be at 1 of the 4 airline terminals waiting or you will still need to board a free inter-terminal/parking transfer shuttle with your luggage for the bus ride. Not sure what you meant by "private transfer" but you can trust "us" here - they aren't going to be any better at LGA, there is no "meet & greet" inside unless you are prepared to paid a deluxe premium price. We are loved simplicity and ease when traveling & coping with ground transfer, but it's a challenging matter for many coming to NY to cruise/visit for the first time. Transfer to JFK is somewhat easier, the bus(es) will be just outside the cruise terminal at one of the stalls ... the difficulty is sometimes, finding the "agents" and "reps" so that you aren't running in loops & circles to find out which bus is going where, and they don't leave until the booked "riders" are onboard, luggage loaded & headcounts taken ... for that 45 to 90 minutes+ trip out to JFK, if they aren't stopping at LGA first (should NOT, but ...) and there are 6 or 7 "stops" with JFK for various airline terminals + sometimes, possibly the charter terminal if someone else is on an int'l flight, unlikely but you have plenty of time ... fine. Last month, Norwegian's bus transfer to/from LGA was $35 p/p and JFK was $45 p/p (and, they added EWR nowadays, also $45 p/p) - recommended for flights with a 5 hour windows (more if on an international connection) to/from ship's arrival/check-in cutoff. Brighton Line Posted June 8, 2018 #7 Share Posted June 8, 2018 Even if not early I've gone to the 2nd floor "arrivals" and waited for an arriving yellow taxi and just hopped in after they unload their luggage. You do sometimes get a uniformed traffic director telling you this area is only for arriving passengers but any NYC Taxi driver worth his salt would not pass up a fare right when he finishes a drop-off.
