Adding a Room for Grandpa

We have booked a suite for the Dawn next year and are considering asking my wife’s father to join us. It would be his second cruise outside of his navy tour of duty. For us, we are long time cruisers (platinum). We pick either a two bed family or in this case a DOS with the second bedroom for our daughter. While he could book a nearby room and spend his days visiting our suite, we had a couple logic busts we would appreciate insight towards.

1. Though grandpa is a traveller it would be easier to check in together rather than losing him the queue. Can his key be moved to the suite line?

2. The Dawn does not have a Haven so breakfast and lunch are in Moderno. Can he go with us? It would be awkward to drop him off at the buffet and go to breakfast without him. Is it possible to pay for him as a guest?

3. At there other things that would cause strife, other than traveling with an in-law?

Thanks for your thoughts.

I’ve traveled in a suite and with a single friend in non-suite. We were able to all check-in together and board together through the suite checkin and boarding process.

The question about breakfast in Moderno is a little trickier. On embarkment day the concierge and/or Your butler will usually let your boarding party (including the single non-suite guest) have lunch together in Moderno or whatever speciality restaurant. This happened for us on both sailings where we had a single non-suite guest traveling with our party. BUT, it’s totally at the discretion of the concierge. Eating with you the entire cruise for breakfast and lunch is a BIG ask and probably would be a no. If the concierge did say yes you’d definitely need to tip big that cruise to the concierge.

You can ask the concierge to get an extra entry only key for your suite so grandpa can come and go. That’s no problem.

There is another solution for your suite vs non suite problem that is more straight forward. Book grandpa into a family suite (no balcony) near you on deck 12 forward. It comes with all the suite perks and is the lowest priced “suite” on the ship. It’s usually an excellent price and it is an excellent cabin. Just a thought.

1. Probably.

2. No. Some have had luck though. Think about it if every suite had one or two extra.

3. Priority disembarkation or show seating.

You have the DOS that sleeps six I'd just book him in there and use couch in living room IMO. He would have to pay solo supplement most likely.

There are inside rooms on 12 that are newer (added when the DOS were added) he could book but once again, probably at single supplement.
