Amalfi Coast and Pompeii by Land and Sea excursion??

Royal Caribbean offers a shore excursion that drives along the coast to Amalfi, allows time to explore the town, then a 45 min boat ride along the coast to a spot for lunch before exploring Pompeii. I'm trying to find a private tour similar as they are usually much less expensive than the ship's. Does anyone know of a private tour company with something close to this? Thank you!

Just beware of cruise ship excursions to the Amalfi Coast. Tour buses are not permitted to enter into the town of Positano (the place that most want to go). The tour buses simply stop along the Amalfi Drive which runs above the city...so cruisers can take photos. If you want to actually go down into the town to shop, eat, browse, etc. you will need to use a small vehicle private tour or get there on your own via rental car, ferry, etc.

Some cruise lines are really deceptive in their excursion descriptions. If they say something like "you will see the cliff side town of Positano" it usually means you will "see" it...but not go in it :).

We got together with several people from our roll call and used All Around Italy for our day in Naples. We spent 2 hours in Pompeii and then went up the Amalfi coast stopping in Positano and Sorrento. It was a wonderful day.

Thanks for your responses. It sounds like the consensus is that the drive along the coast is better than by water?

Ideally you would do that drive in a smaller vehicle so you can actually experience walking around Positano. And when it comes to visiting towns we also recommend a tour that also includes both Amalfi and Ravello. We are always amazed at how many tours do not include a visit to Ravello which is a charming hilltop town that overlooks the Amalfi area.
