Quit smoking...get a free cruise!!

Danno

Recommended Posts

One of my employees quit smoking a while back...having never smoked I was SHOCKED to see what he spent to smoke. In Ontario the price for gigarettes is about $9 per pack. So now each day I throw $10 (my non-smoking bonus) in my change jug as well as whatever pocket change I have.

I expect within a year to have in excess of $5000 to pay for our next cruise...now if I could only talk my wife into contributing her "Non-smokers" share icon_biggrin.gif!!

Amazing isn't it what some people will do to pay for an addiction.

My wife and I are addicted to books. Spending $40 a month on used science fiction papaperbacks (at 1/4 cover price!) is common for us.

My father in law quit smoking 5 years ago and as he says, he always seems to have more money now.

Blazer...Good for you...I can only imagine how tough it was. I have been two years losing weight (92lbs so far) and I realize the battle starts all over again each day. Enjoy your free cruise!!

I didn't mean to make light of smokers...I understand it's a tough thing to quit and I admire those who do.

Gee Danno, I guess I misunderstood this thread by your subject line. I thought you were going to give a free cruise to smokers who quit. icon_biggrin.gif

I am in day 15 after a 30 year 3 pack a day habit! Am keeping track of the savings to spend at Diamonds International in February. I ought to get a pretty sparkler by that time!

Till two weeks on the Golden Princess!

92 lbs.? Color me impressed. I've been fighting that battle, too. I've always said of cruising that the true luxury is only eating what you want, even if it's "just a plate of prawns followed by caviar." icon_wink.gif But that's just MY cruise diet tip. Funny how clear I am aobut why I smoked, but not always about why I (over) eat. Keep up the good work.

I DO NOT DIET ON A CRUISE SHIP...there are 355 other days in a year more suited to that endeavour icon_biggrin.gif

Well done Brat!! I have found with dieting, never get discouraged when you feel weak, GET MAD!!!

Hi Chuck. Yes I was probably there with you SIL. What a dumb habit. We must look like kids sneakin a smoke in high school. It is such a small area by the Martini bar.

The weight....I don't think you really look overweight but you know what you weighed before you quit as compared to now. You will be able to take it off. And the money you saved is the price of another cruise.

Got your email. Guess I had your cruises mixed up. You will enjoy the Infinity. We will be on her on June 27, Alaska. You and Wanda should consider the Summit Sept 05. We may book this one. Vancover to SFO. 14 days. Goes up the inside passage all the way to Sitka and then back down to Seattle, SFO and Catalina. At least I think that's the iteniery.

Hi MissyLou, Yup, using the patches. Have come up allergic to the adhesive in them, but Dr. has prescribed pills and a cream to control the reaction. Only 3 more weeks and I should be able to stop using them. Gets easier every day!

Till two weeks on the Golden Princess!

Have had a few friends use the patch who were successful also. You must have had a stong will to stop. Keep us posted on how you are doing. I know they say the first three days are the hardest and you are well beyond that.

July will be 3 years for me since I quit smoking cold turkey. Wonder if that qualifies for an anniversary cake on board. Maybe meetings on board for Friends of the Marlboro Man. Now if I could just stop eating.

5 years ago I quit a 2 pack a day 10 year habit cold turkey. Unfortunately I also packed on over 100lbs. in just over 2 years after I quit! icon_eek.gif

Fast forward to now, I have lost 87 of those 100 pounds, (still need to lose about 40 more)and it has been a huge struggle, but in the end has been totally worth it. It is so freeing to not be a prisoner to the cigarettes anymore.

Now, about that free cruise.... icon_wink.gif

I quit smoking 3 years, 5 months and 11 days ago so I could take a cruise. I decided I wanted to sail the Med on Renaissance Cruises and they were a non smoking line. Even though Ren is now gone (and missed by me icon_frown.gif), I'll always be thankful to them for providing a catalyst that finally worked for me! icon_smile.gif

thebrat99 - keep going! I just kept telling myself that I wasn't a smoker anymore. That worked for me.

Congrats to all of us that have stopped or are trying to stop. It's hard work, but worth the effort. And Joe, when I longingly look at a cigarette in Sept., remind me of why I don't-to afford more cruises!

Blazer Boy,

No problem... However, stay away from my other half as he went back to the nasty habit.... He and Sue will be cigar smoking I'm sure...

It's been 4 years since I quit, and it would have been easier to just never eat again; it was such a struggle! Finally, I'm at the point that the idea of a cig doesn't sound (or smell) good anymore. The extra jing and the extra years will probably come in handy for cruising through life with the hubster, who's never smoked. icon_smile.gif
