CoLeLe Posted July 23, 2018 #1 Share Posted July 23, 2018 First time traveling to Italy. Recommendations for tour guide for Almalfi, Sorrento and Pompeii? Is it too much for one day? Sent from my iPad using Forums
gubby Posted July 23, 2018 #2 Share Posted July 23, 2018 We have used Fabrizio of All Around Italy for about 5 tours while cruising in that area. He is an absolutely amazing guide. He is a safe driver, very knowledgeable and more important has a great sense of humour. He will suggest new places and make sure that everything is done on time. We did do Sorrento and the Amalfi coast in one day, but I think trying to add Pompeii and make any sense of it is too much. Have a great cruise. capriccio Posted July 23, 2018 #3 Share Posted July 23, 2018 Our group (6 adult family members) had a great day with APTours (https://www.aptours.it/) last fall. We were picked up right on time and taken to Pompeii to meet our Pompeii guide. We were some of the first to enter the excavations that morning for a wonderful tour. Then it was a drive on the Amalfi Coast to Positano for an hour on our own. Then back to Sorrento for lunch at a restaurant recommended by our guide (some of, if not the best pizza we ever had in Italy) and self touring of the old city. Finally we caught the ferry (all arranged by APTours) across the Bay of Naples, disembarked and walked directly to our cruise ship. The guides were excellent - and DH and I are picky having lived in Italy for 5 years and having visited the area numerous times. It was a very full day but we all loved it. We were picked up at 8:15 am in order to get to Pompeii before it opened at 9 am and we caught the ferry back to Naples at 4:30 pm. I think the ferry ride was about 1/2 hour. Luckily it was a 7 am to 7 pm port day. You should also look for recommendations on the Italy Ports of Call Board: https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=595. CruiserBruce Posted July 23, 2018 #4 Share Posted July 23, 2018 A little research on the Italy board, here: https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=595 would be very beneficial, and you will find a lot of tour suggestions and vendor recommendations, like the wonderful Rome in Limo. We did Pompeii, Sorrento and Amalfi, and that filled the day.
