Tour to Winchester from Southampton Port

Hi Claire,

It's only about 15 miles - under 40 minutes by road, under 30 mins by train.

Several trains per hour from Southampton central station (anywhere from a 15 min walk to an £8 taxi fare, depending which cruise terminal). Round-trip train fare about £7, buy return tickets at the station, GBP or plastic. http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/

Winchester centre and cathedral are about a 15 min mainly-downhill walk from the rail station. Go via the Great Hall (only surviving part of Winchester castle) and the little Westgate museum. If you don't fancy the walk back, there are taxis near the cathedral in Broadway.

Or you can go by local bus, Bluestar route 1, every 15 mins from the Bargate in Southampton. Similar fare, journey time about an hour. The slightly longer walk from your ship to the Bargate is balanced by the Winchester bus stop being in the Broadway.

A private transfer might be a bit extravagant but if you pre-book I guess a car will cost about £25 each-way (that's take you & collect, not remain with you)

There won't be any "tours" as such, unless offered by your ship - and at ship's prices.

JB :)
