smithsheff Posted August 13, 2018 #1 Share Posted August 13, 2018 Hi We normally cruise with Thomson, now Marcella, but looking to do Alaska which Thomson's don't do. Has any one been on both, we particularly want the all inclusive drinks and freedom dinning. Is there much difference in the atmosphere on board. Are the excursions similarly run, which has the best food, entertainment, activities etc..... Cheers X X

don't-use-real-name Posted August 13, 2018 #3 Share Posted August 13, 2018 LINK to Marcella (Thomson): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marella_Cruises Not traveled on Thomson but at a glance compare it to the smaller ships of Holland America that do cruise Alaska. smithsheff Posted August 13, 2018 Author #4 Share Posted August 13, 2018 Which cruise line? hi NCL compared to Thomsons, though any others that do the freedom dining and inclusive drinks would also be great. :D
Rare Huntingdon1701 Posted August 13, 2018 #5 Share Posted August 13, 2018 The Norwegian ships are all bigger, so you'll find more choice of restaurants and bars than on Marella (as well as more people). The biggest Norwegian ships will have more in terms of waterslides, rope courses etc if that appeals. I think you'd probably be on one of those if you did Alaska, so you'd experience the biggest and best of NCL.
Sauer-kraut Posted August 13, 2018 #6 Share Posted August 13, 2018 Very casual on board attire, no dressing up for dinner. Drinks prices are higher on NCL, but if you are taking the beverage package you'll be fine. Cabins are small -- very small. Very relaxed atmosphere on board. For excursions go to the Alaska ports of call board for ideas. You will find LOTS to do in Alaska.
