lynndomenech Posted August 13, 2018 #1 Share Posted August 13, 2018 We're scheduled for AMA river cruise from Budapest to Prague beginning August 31st. The cruise line is telling us there's no problem but we're hearing the Danube is closed.
Rare Host Jazzbeau Posted August 14, 2018 #2 Share Posted August 14, 2018 Welcome to Cruise Critic. The Danube is not 'closed.' It is suffering from low water conditions, but this only affects an area west of Vilshofen [where I believe your AMA cruise ends] and to a lesser extent the port of Budapest. Some cruise lines have been unable to reach Budapest recently, but there was a report a few days ago that AMA has made it through: https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showpost.php?p=56760957&postcount=20 Generally AMA is able to keep sailing when most other lines are grounded, because their ships have a shallower draft and their captains are experienced. For more information about current conditions on the Danube, check out the most recent posts on this thread: https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2600414
