p-helps Posted August 13, 2018 #1 Share Posted August 13, 2018 Hi guys, we are going on a cruise to and around New Zealand on Ovation of the Seas in November and will be visiting the following ports; Dunedin Wellington Tauranga Auckland Bay of Islands This will be our first time on Ovation and cruising New Zealand (have previously done a land holiday) so any tips would be very helpful regarding shore excursions, what to miss and not to miss on both the ship and the ports. Also if anyone could tell us the prices for the drinks that would be handy :') Thanks in advance
Kiwi_cruiser Posted August 14, 2018 #2 Share Posted August 14, 2018 Auckland and Bay of Islands are tender ports. (Ovation of the Seas tenders in to Auckland, as the Council and port wont let her dock as they are been silly and blame her size.)
Chiliburn Posted August 14, 2018 #3 Share Posted August 14, 2018 We did much the same this Christmas. If you have a balcony get on the land side,it sounds like you are going counter clockwise,so get a balcony on the left side. We found the ship tours were quite reasonable, slightly more expensive but convenient. Book everything thing you can on the ovation especially the iFly because once you’re on there it’s hard to get in.

Chiliburn Posted August 14, 2018 #5 Share Posted August 14, 2018 Try the solarium out for dinner.most people ignore it but it’s one of the best kept secrets .it’s part of the upcharge restaurants but is mostly free ,things like lobster you have to pay for but is still cheap. One of my favourite finds is the drink of the day. We don’t bother with the drinks package, just buy as we go. Each bar has a drink of the day and each bar is different and they are good, about $8 each. Entertainment is very good.they have their resident entertainment and they fly in and out specialty preferences.
