Royal Caribbean International Goes Bankrupt

 

MIAMI---In a surprise announcement, Royal Caribbean International declared bankruptcy at 12:01AM April 1, 2004 and has immediately ceased operations.

 

As of today, Royal Caribbean International states that it has ceased all cruise operations until further notice. Passengers currently onboard vessels are being disembarked at the nearest port and travel arrangements for those with passports are being made to get them home as quickly as possible. Passengers without passports may have travel arrangement delays. Royal Caribbean International says that it is assuring passengers that they make it "safely home".

In recent months, Royal Caribbean has been experimenting ways of increasing revenue. A fee was imposed on some Voyager Class ships for their alternative Johnny Rockets Restaurants. The company had also imposed a juice charge fleet wide.

Carnival Cruise Lines has expressed interest in taking over Royal Caribbean International’s fleet of 19 ships and has hinted that there would be no fee for any of the alternative restaurants. The juice fee would also be eliminated.

This camera is frequently aimed at the Queen Mary and the Port of Long Beach. The white dome is Carnival's terminal. The Pride is there on Sunday, and the Ecstasy on Monday and Friday.

Cruisinfanatic, this really tickled me, but it's amazing the respond differences between the Carnival board and the RCCL board. I read it over there and LOL at their responds. Of course, if it had been reversed, us Carnival lovers would have probably felt the same way. I do tip my hat to you, I love a good practical joke and you are one of the BEST! Chud
