ChiBearsSuperFan Posted April 1, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 1, 2004 We want to book a 8B on Glory. If Carnival, it all its wisdom, decides to upgrade us and we done like the stateroom they selected, can we refuse it? Is this something that you've ever done? Thanks! hstrybuf Posted April 1, 2004 #2 Share Posted April 1, 2004 You can most certainly refuse an upgrade. Sometimes you don't always get a better cabin. ChiBearsSuperFan Posted April 1, 2004 Author #3 Share Posted April 1, 2004 I guess we are just worried about being under or on the Lido deck. We also dont know if we are too crazy about a Cat. 9 since they seem to be at the back of the ship on the corners. Ive heard people complain back there that they have problems with soot and debris on their balconies. Dont want to have to deal with that. We'll take a Cat. 11 though. No complaints there! CruiseFever Posted April 1, 2004 #4 Share Posted April 1, 2004 I did that just today. They wanted me to "upgrade" to a mid-ship cabin balcony cabin from my all the way aft cabin. While mid ship is considered better for location and movement we really like the all the way aft cabins so I declined. britt-britt Posted April 1, 2004 #5 Share Posted April 1, 2004 We had a cat. 11 aft that was under the Lido deck (swimming pool right over us). We didn't have any problems w/ noise or soot on our balcony.
eerbeek Posted April 1, 2004 #6 Share Posted April 1, 2004 I'm not as fancy as all you folks, but I have a 1A (solo, so plenty of room, etc.) on Destiny, assigned, with portholes. My FIRST "ocean view" (next sailing, might indulge in a balcony!)!!!!! An 'upgrade' for me would be in the Cat 4 range and they are ALL inside. I don't care WHERE the cabin is located, I want my portholes after 2 interior cabins! It'll be a luxury to see outside (weather, daylight, etc.) this time around. In the Cat 4's you don't know ANYTHING until you hit the lido deck! SO, to answer your question, I would refuse it in a heartbeat. kc320 Posted April 1, 2004 #7 Share Posted April 1, 2004 We refused an upgrade last year from our Cat. 9A corner wrap around balcony to a cat 11 suite. No problems with soot or debris at all. Sovereign Again Halloween on the Serenade

masq Posted April 2, 2004 #10 Share Posted April 2, 2004 If I have booked a specific room on the ship, they won't try to 'upgrade' me to a different room without asking will they? I would be pretty peeved if they did since that's the room I want and I have my reasons. kristineth Posted April 2, 2004 #11 Share Posted April 2, 2004 I've been on three cruises....with all three I booked assigned cabins. Two of those times I was upgraded without anyone asking me, so, yes...it does happen! (the only time I didn't get upgraded was when I booked a suite...the other two times I booked a 9A cabin) Kristin Triumph 10/01 Pride 09/02 Glory 09/03 Mariner of the Seas 09/
masq Posted April 7, 2004 #12 Share Posted April 7, 2004 I wonder if it would help if I had my TA tell Carnival that under no circumstances do I want a different cabin? Kenster Posted April 7, 2004 #13 Share Posted April 7, 2004 I would think that you can refuse to change ahead of time, but if you wait until you get to the ship to have a peak, then want to go back to your original, I'd think you would be out of luck, as others would already be assigned to your "other" cabin. jfritz126 Posted April 7, 2004 #14 Share Posted April 7, 2004 My SIL & BIL were just upgraded to a suite on the Miracle and could not change back to their regular room. They would have preferred to keep what they had but were told if they refused the upgrade they would have to take another room. And they booked a particular room at time of booking. So it can happen!! airdale Posted April 7, 2004 #15 Share Posted April 7, 2004 jfritz126 and kristineth, did you book through a TA or with a Carnival PVP? If they were with a TA, I wonder if some TA's don't take it upon themselves to upgrade you without asking? SURPRISE? Until the Elation
dan40 Posted April 7, 2004 #16 Share Posted April 7, 2004 masq, with your wonderful luck, an upgrade wouldn't come as a suprise. The only way you could avoid an upgrade would be for you to book a 1A, then you wouldn't get upgraded. I have over 30 cruises with assigned cabins that I picked, have never even been offered an upgrade from one of them. Have booked a few guarantee cabins and received minor upgrades. Only one from inside to outside otherwise just a meaningless deck change. Upgrades from assigned cabins do happen but are very rare, and without your agreement, rarer still. Huey Posted April 7, 2004 #17 Share Posted April 7, 2004 We've just experienced this. When we noticed a drastic drop in price, we called Carnival. We did have assigned cabins, and they immediately wanted to upgrade us instead of a refund or credit. However, we wanted to keep our adjoining rooms. They fought us on it, but then agreed to give us a credit. My parents were also offered an upgrade from 8A to 8I - however, they didn't want to be under the lido deck either. I had heard that when you're on your balcony, you can hear the sound of chairs moving, food cooking, band playing, etc. Carnival offered them a 8G and a shipboard credit. Good luck. masq Posted April 9, 2004 #18 Share Posted April 9, 2004 Thanks for the vote of confidence Dan. Unless Carnival is moving us to the Penthouse suite, we don't want to be moved to a different cabin. They thought we were unhappy on our last cruise....
