Woollen cruiser Posted October 22, 2018 #1 Share Posted October 22, 2018 Good day to you all, We are embarking on a transatlantic and Caribbean journey in the near future and our 19 year old son is tagging along! We already know that the minimum age limit in the casino in UK and European is 18 years, but I understand the age limit is different for the USA. Does anybody know if this applies to the whole trip or only in foreign waters or ports? Regards.

Underwatr Posted October 22, 2018 #3 Share Posted October 22, 2018 Cunard is somewhat unique (can something be somewhat unique?) among lines sailing from the US in that the drinking age outside US waters is 18 regardless of the origin of the cruise. Other lines tend to base the entire cruise on the port of origin.
Underwatr Posted October 23, 2018 #4 Share Posted October 23, 2018 I was just over 21 when the push to raise the drinking age from 18 to 21 was ongoing. As I saw it at the time it was to keep the 16 and 17 year olds from being able to have access to booze. If they had enforced ID checks for alcohol as rigidly then as they do now (I was carded to buy a glass of beer just this week and I'm 60, for crying out loud!) I think the age could well have remained at 18. Now it's just entrenched at 21. There's even talk of raising the age to buy cigarettes to 21.
