cdnrn24 Posted November 29, 2018 #1 Share Posted November 29, 2018 I'm going to be driving to Miami from Orlando on January 27th. I need to drop my rental car off at the Miami Airport then head to the cruise terminal. I was planning on leaving Orlando around 7am figuring that would get me to the pier by noon. With the marathon taking place the same day should I be adding more time to schedule? We are sailing on the Allure and need two be onboard by 2:30pm at the latest. BlueHerons Posted November 29, 2018 #2 Share Posted November 29, 2018 I would leave Orlando the night before. Planning on getting to the port at noon is cutting it too close because anything can happen on your drive.
JohninDC Posted November 29, 2018 #3 Share Posted November 29, 2018 Not sure if you need to leave the night before as Blue suggests, but I would leave earlier than 7:00. The drive from Orlando (where in Orlando?) to MIA will take 3.5+ hours. If you rent from National, Alamo, Thrifty or Enterprise they offer a free shuttle between their MIA airport location and POM. Otherwise a taxi will run about $27 or you can Uber for about $20 - the marathon will close some roads and make the trip from MIA longer and more complicated, so give yourself some wiggle room. Flymia Posted November 29, 2018 #4 Share Posted November 29, 2018 Most of the road closures will likely be cleared around 12pm from my experience living in Downtown. Traffic will be worse but should not be horrible. From the airport you should be taking the highway straight to the port with the tunnel avoiding the streets that will be the the most clogged. 7 a.m. is ok but does not give much buffer. The drive should be around 3.5 hours non-stop. So that is plenty of time, so long as there is no major backups.
