Can I open my window...

No, we had a CAT 6B (oceanview) and the window did not open. I suggest a balcony if you want air in the cabin...Next cruise we are getting a balcony!

Fish? I don't like fish! Something smells fishy here. No one told me a cruise involves fish. Checked all my brochures & paper work - no where does it mention fish. I demand Carnival give me a free cruise now that my vacation will be ruined by the fish!

No idea what this response means...is the July 03 - 208 posts for me? I asked because I have only been on one previous cruise and we had a balcony. Was this a stupid question?

No it wasn't a stupid question especially when you think about that fact that in the older ocean liners the portholes often opened. I mean it is not like the windows are below sea level or something .

Thanks dosi, I didn't think it was a stupid question. Particularly since I have only been in one ship cabin in my life and that one had a sliding door!

Not sure the relevance of the number of times I have posted or when I registered. Can someone explain this? (I guess this is another stupid question.)

Obviously since I have 5 times as many posts, I am five times smarter ...or wait maybe I just had to ask five times as many questions making me actually five times more ignorant .

The post has been deleted, cmbagwell, an obvious "flame" intending to imply that with 208 posts you should have known better than to ask such a stupid question.

There are not any stupid questions. As one poster so correctly observed several posts up, years ago, the portholes on some cabins could be opened. I wonder if the flamer knew that!

Nor did I think it was a stupid question. I apologize if it seemed like a flame - it was not intended that way. I guess it's hard to convey one's intended spirit via the internet.

Yes, I figured this was another "will I get enough to eat should I bring my crockpot" thread and for that I again aplogize.

As a matter of fact, yes I did.

ok, let me add my own stupid question here. Some of the Carnival ships have a cabin category (5??) that is french door, obstructed view. Would this be an actual opening door, or just a really big door-sized window?

Regarding the french doors, I was wondering the same thing and other CC members were kind enough to tell me that the doors open, but there is no balcony, just a railing, so you can get fresh air. If I'm wrong please correct me someone.

Getting yourself in trouble again liv?
I actually had a porthole on my first cruise.
Alas, it did not open.
I belive all the portholes were bolted shut after the famous "Lucy" incident when she got stuck in one while crossing the Atlantic.

I've been here. Nothing much has caught my fancy to respond to.
Actually, if I don't know anything about a subject, I try not to answer.
But sometimes when I am very bored, I just can't help getting a little silly.
It just gets tooooo serious on these boards.
I think I have the "Why won't winter ever go away blahs" also.

I've never been in a category 5 myself, but from what I've read here, sometimes you can open the door and sometimes it will be locked. Speculation was that the doors were locked if there had been problems with people messing with the lifeboats that are outside the french doors. Anyone know if this is accurate?

Apology accepted, livtojump. I truly was just curious if I would be getting fresh air.

Also, I never would have thought a porthole would open, just the big windows that I thought might slide open (like normal windows).

I tend to get a little seasick and the balcony was a lifesaver on my first cruise, but I just couldn't afford it this time. I'll be hiking up to the deck for some fresh air!

Thanks for the responses.

i just back from a Spirit Cruise on 3/22. We had a Cat 5A French Balcony Cabin. I hand picked the cabin, so we had a ocean view, since the balcony was between two lifeboats. We left the one door open every night we slept by wedging the door into the side of the bed. It was indeed VERY plesant sleeping each night with the sound of the water and gentle breezes. I highly recommend this type of room, provided it is a free upgrade from a 4A, and you choose a cabin that is inbetween lifeboats.
