hartskys Posted December 13, 2018 #1 Share Posted December 13, 2018 Looking for a good Luau? We are coming into Kahului so would like to be close due to getting back to ship after the Luau. Has anyone been to the Te Au Moanu Luau? Was it worth it? It's at the Wailea Beach Resort – Marriott, Maui.
CruiserBruce Posted December 13, 2018 #2 Share Posted December 13, 2018 Close is a relative term. Wailea is 25-30 minutes drive away. Parking will be a problem. Nothing closer in Kahalui. We frequently stay next door at the Grand Wailea (which also has a luau 4 nights a week), but can't really comment on quality.
hartskys Posted January 5, 2019 Author #3 Share Posted January 5, 2019 Well, we had this booked but then they cancelled it on us. We were really bummed. They said the resort rented out the grounds to a private function. :( Did some more researching and found another one in Lahaina.

There are some fine luaus in Lahaina, but you mentioned wanting to stay close to your ship and Lahaina is about 45 minutes from Kahului Harbor. If you have a rental car you can drive there and back, but do factor in time for returning your car and getting back to the ship. If you want to take a taxi, the following is from the TaxiFareFinder website for a ride one-way. Not to be negative at all, but just making sure you have considered everything. Taxi one-way: Initial Fare $3.50 Add. Metered Fare $75.30 Tip (15%) $11.82 Estimated Taxi Fare $90.

We are renting a car and the luau ends at 8:15 and ship leaves at 11pm. Do you think we will be ok?

Then about an hour's drive to Kahului Airport (unless you rented from another location). Give time to turn the car in and get the rental car shuttle or a taxi from the airport to the harbor (about three miles). The ship may want you to be back no later than 10 p.m. Can you make it? If everything goes smoothly, yes. Do you have a lot of wiggle room if everything doesn't go smoothly? No. We must leave that decision to you. SissyFace Posted January 11, 2019 #8 Share Posted January 11, 2019 Is your ship offering a luau as an excursion? I would either opt for that or, if possible, attend a luau on another Island. You will be on pins and needles worrying about your timing, returning the car, traffic (oh, yes!) ... and I doubt you will enjoy yourself. Just getting out of the parking lot can be a chore ... and you don't know your way around, either.
