Wine Recommendations?

We have heard about the extremely high liquor and wine prices on Cunard.  Do any of you have any wines you enjoy from the Cunard Wine List to recommend that seem to be a comparatively good value?

What is it that they say -- the second cheapest wine on any wine list has the highest markup?

 

People tend to aim low but they don't want to appear cheap, so they be attracted to a cheap wine but not the cheapest.

I should keep better notes of what I buy onboard.  You do know that you can bring wine aboard at embarkation or any port, right? Even with $20 or $25 in corkage you can get better value, particularly in the retail range over $40.

 

Most restaurants have a wine markup similar to Cunard's.  IMO the markup on the higher end isn't as severe as the lower end but I don't like paying $100+ for wine at dinner.

That's a really difficult question to answer as it really depends on what you like to drink.

What would you drink at home or out at a restaurant ?

If drinking white, I usually drink a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, Champagne or Prosecco. If drinking red, full body- dry  red. Do not care for sweet wines.

We like the Land Made Sauvignon Blanc (370) or the Cloudy Bay (369) if you want to spend a bit more. I like the Muscadet (103) as well.

We enjoyed the Nero d'Avola at $33.00.  Better than some of the more expensive wines so we had it again.

The Black Shiraz is rather nice. Also check out the bin ends not necessarily cheaper but not on the list and some fine wines in them.
