Luggage checkin in Barcelona

How early can I drop off my luggage for my cruise in Barcelona? We are flying in the evening before the cruise and i'm hoping to drop off our luggage early in the morning and explore the city for a few hours. The other option, i'm thinking, get a hotel by the port and just leave the bags there until its time to get on the ship...

I can't exactly say how early you can leave your luggage at the port, but when cruised out of Barcelona about a month ago and we booked a hotel on Las Ramblas, which is about 10  minutes away from the port. It took about 10-12 minutes by taxi to get there and they held our luggage until we were ready to go to the port. There are many hotels in this area that would probably do this.
