daydreamer16 Posted January 18, 2019 #1 Share Posted January 18, 2019 Stopping in Gexto this coming September and have read on some older posts that there is a free shuttle from the port (Gexto) into Bilbao. Does anyone know if that info is still true? Thanks!
Rare Hlitner Posted January 24, 2019 #2 Share Posted January 24, 2019 Do not know if it is still true, but there is also public transportation (train/Metro) from outside the port but its a bit of a hike. The last two times we docked in Gexto (with 2 different cruise lines) the cruise line's port lecturers (whose job is to "encourage" passengers to book the over priced excursions) neglected to mention that there were Free shuttle buses from the port into Bilbao. We later learned that these buses were subsidized by the local government with the intent of helping cruisers get to the shopping areas and tourist attractions. On one of our cruises they did "mention" the Free shuttle buses on the evening before we docked (it was in the daily schedule delivered to cabins)….but of course that was too late for those who had paid the big bucks for excursions and transfers. Many cruisers have never grasped the fact that cruise lines make money on their excursions/transfers and do not seem to have any problem keeping passengers in the dark about other options :(. Once upon a time some cruise lines had real port lecturers, but now these folks are often shills for the on-board shore office and certain stores (ashore) that pay a "promotional allowance" to be "recommended" on the ships.
