Cruisingwithoutthekids Posted January 23, 2019 #1 Share Posted January 23, 2019 Looking to hear what people have paid for airfare in the past Pittsburgh to San Juan. Particularly in the fall. Seeing fares of $511 RT right now.
KatPem Posted January 28, 2019 #2 Share Posted January 28, 2019 I haven't looked at PIT, but keep watching. We have been from IND 6 or 7 times and it flucates from $330-800+ RT. We have a family of 6 and try to be ultra flexible so we hold off until about 6-7 weeks beforehand and that seems to be when they go down if they will. soonernstlouis Posted January 28, 2019 #3 Share Posted January 28, 2019 I’m definitely waiting until Southwest Airlines opens up their September booking before deciding which airline to choose (they become available about 6 months in advance). Remember, SWA does not charge for rebooking and you get 2 free checked bags per person. The downside (to some) is no reserved seats.
Zach1213 Posted January 28, 2019 #4 Share Posted January 28, 2019 Unfortunately, what anyone has paid before is not an indication of what you can expect...there are too many factors, too many "what ifs". And your search parameter of "fall" is too broad to give an accurate result. As such, even a frequent flier such as myself can't say if $511 sounds fair or ridiculous...but either way, it is what it is. Also note that waiting for Southwest is a calculated risk. Let's say the big three airlines are charging $511 right now, but you wait for Southwest and when it comes out they're charging $650. However, since you waited, the other three are now charging $650, so it cost you a bunch to wait. It's a calculated risk, and I have seen it work both ways many times. Rare Tapi Posted January 28, 2019 #5 Share Posted January 28, 2019 I’m not encouraging to fly Allegiant, but they have been offering seasonal nonstop service from PIT to SJU. I believe that the season for this city pair terminates in February but I don’t know when/if they’ll bring it back in the fall. But you can bet that if Allegiant does bring that flight back, fares on other airlines will drop as a result.
stepf717 Posted February 11, 2019 #6 Share Posted February 11, 2019 I have been to San Juan the past 3 years and my advice is to keep checking daily as prices change. I try looking at one way flight thru various airlines. I find sometimes you can save that way. I just returned a few days ago but booked my fare 6 mo in advance I got really great prices $132 each way Delta there SW home. I also have found that one weekend the airfare is cheap and the next its expensive. I was on a 11 day cruise so I lucked out and happen to fly on the cheap weekends.
