Bingo on the ship

Onboard Celebrity Equinox 3 weeks ago and we played the first session of bingo.  There were well over 100 people (my informal count showed around 125) in the theater.  They had packages ranging from $49pp to $69pp.  Assuming 100 of the 125 paid at a median level of $59 - that's $5,900 taken in by Celebrity.  We played 4 games and the first three games paid less than $300.  The blackout game paid just under $500.  So total paybacks of around $1,300 compared to $5,900 taken in.

I didn't realize how bad the paybacks were - where does the rest of the money go?  Directly to Celebrity's bottom line?  With that kind of expected value (EV), the casino looks like a gold mine compared to playing Bingo.

Am I missing something?

I often wonder the same.  We stopped playing because something doesn't add up.

Agreed.  It seems silly to have a "payback" of 25% or less when the casino is going to be around 90%...

And that's why I stopped playing after the first time. Around $150 wasted between the 2 of us.

Only time Bingo ever paid off for us is on NCL where they would give away an upgrade for the rest of the cruise in what ever suite they had unsold. We won and the only suite they had was the Garden Villa, 4700 sq ft with 3 bedrooms, 3 1/2 baths, 2 levels, private full hot tub and steam room, indoor and outdoor dining rooms, player piano, huge living room, foyer, hammock and 2 sun decks. Only two of us. Was ridiculously huge. We'd spend 5 minutes just trying to find each other!

Does the money go towards a huge jackpot that has to be won on the last day ?

I seem to remember that the jackpot was larger towards the end, even though there weren't that many more people.  Either way I wasn't impressed with the payout.
