macc06 Posted January 19, 2006 #1 Share Posted January 19, 2006 im going on a cruise in February and recently recieved some info about excursions and im so confused! do you have to go on an excursion to get off the ship in a port or can you do your own thing? can you go on more than one in a port if the times work out? my cruise goes to san juan, st. thomas, st. kitts, grenada, isla margarita and aruba, if anyone has gone on any worthwhile princess excursions in any of those places. thank you!!! Stay on the ship or get off, it's up to you. As long as you get back to the ship in time, do whatever you want...
pudyqat Posted January 19, 2006 #3 Share Posted January 19, 2006 You can do your own thing. The only advantage to doing a tour sponsored by Princess is that if something happens, they won't leave without you--they will make it right. Also, you will be let off the ship in the first group if you are on one of their tours. This is very unlikely to ever be a problem, but it's just something to keep in mind. mountainhouse Posted January 19, 2006 #4 Share Posted January 19, 2006 Check out the 'port of call' forums. That will give you more info on your stops. Have fun! http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=

You might want to take the ship's excursion since you're new at cruising, but many folks book their own excursions in port. Bottom line is you're free to do whatever you want in port. Just be back on the ship before they pull up the walkway--the ship will not wait for you to return.
Pam in CA Posted January 19, 2006 #6 Share Posted January 19, 2006 Also, you only need to take your onboard cruise card with you when you get off the ship but it's a good idea to bring a copy of your passport as well. In other words, you don't have to go through Customs and Immigration in each country. Princess does that for you except when you disembark at the end of your cruise. One thing to note is that if the ship is tendering at a port as opposed to docking, the Princess tours get priority in transporting people to the dock. As a newbie, you will probably be more comfortable taking Princess tours.
TexasMom2 Posted January 19, 2006 #7 Share Posted January 19, 2006 We were required to show picture ID to reboard the tenders at Cozumel. We heard it on the announcements the day before and it was in the Patter. This was the Grand Dec 17-24.
