Nanny Cay?

Have not been to Nanny Cay since well before Irma, there was a store and beach area where you could relax closer to port. Try inquiring on the BVI forum at TTOL, there is also a thread there listing businesses and areas that have opened since Irma...

We were there last week and it was great.  Less than a ten minute drive from the port, no hills.  There was a swimming pool with lounge chairs and umbrellas, and a small beach.  The pool was mostly empty and we were the only people on the beach.  There was a bar, a small restaurant and real bathrooms.  This is part of a marina complex, and there were some amazing large yachts a minute walk from this area, as well as a food store, another bar and restaurant and a gift type shop.  The swimming pool area was for the yacht owners/renters but they apparently welcome day visitors. I’m pretty sure we were the only ones from the two ships in port that day.  The view was of neighboring islands although to the left was a parking lot.

We paid about $20 each way in cab fare.  There is apparently a cab stand in the marina, but our driver came back for us (I called him to confirm).  Chairs were $10 each and lunch was about $20 each.  They had a limited menu. I had pizza which was fine.

If if there was a downside it was the water, which was shallow and rocky.  We managed to get in, but it wasn’t much fun, although the water was clear and pretty.  The beach had rather rough sand.  We were told this was a man-made beach.  It isn’t large, but the area was clean, quiet and safe.  Some of the yacht owners/renters walked by with dogs, but they weren’t a problem.

I wouldnt hesitate to go back.  Thanks to the original poster for mentioning this great find.

Thank you for your great report, that’s a good description of Nanny Cay and what is there. It is an option for day visitors, but we wouldn’t choose that simply because it is a marina and home to boat owners and renters as you said. It is an option, but as you noted the beach is nothing like the gorgeous Tortola beaches, and it’s just not a great spot for day visitors.

But thanks for your report, and yes many owners do have dogs, but remember this is their place, and most are very friendly and will share their experience with you if you are interested in sailing in the future.
