It appears to be right off the highway we need to take to get to the pier anyway (although we will have to travel through some urban area). Im thinking of stopping for dinner in the suburbs and then early evening heading to the hotel for the night. We dont plan on doing anything once we get to the hotel except use the pool (which is a bonus as the budget ones did not) and call it an early night. You will be right across the river from Rutgers university and NJPAC. You are so close to Tops Diner, probably the best diner ever, and there are many great Portuguese restaurants in the area. You can order pretty much anything at a NJ Diner, menus are enormous, and the food is great (bonus, they are open 24/7). https://www.thetopsdiner.com/menus/
hal2008 Posted May 11, 2019 #27 Share Posted May 11, 2019 Just to point out that usually transportation to port by hotels involve extra charges for any passengers beyond two (as much as 50 usd per person) Staty in reasonable price hotel on jersey city, hoboken, seecaucus and uber over. colgal77 Posted May 20, 2019 Author #28 Share Posted May 20, 2019 We had a great stay at the Hampton... was a bit worried about its location but overall no complaints and would stay again. We arrived around 630... traffic was busy but not crazy. We quickly made our exit and at the hotel in no time. Once at the hotel we stayed there for the evening, enjoyed the pool and early bedtime. Up early, nice complimentary breakfast and out the door around 930am.
138east Posted May 21, 2019 #29 Share Posted May 21, 2019 Thanks for the feedback. It’s good to know that the hotel was not off putting and that you had a good experience. Hope you had a great time on the cruise. It’s hard to gauge what folks reaction to a highly urban area like Newark might be.
winky12 Posted May 22, 2019 #30 Share Posted May 22, 2019 Sorry I didn't check this site sooner. We are leaving Fri. 24th for Bayonne NJ (Cape Liberty) and the Bermuda cruise on X Summit. This will be our 3rd stay at the Hilton Garden Inn on Staten Island but we are driving from the south. EZPZ Both safe for the car and ourselves, huge parking area shared by the Hampton Inn and lovely walks all around. Family owned, great Italian restaurant, it is used as a wedding reception venue and for other family celebrations. They booked our transfer to the ship and gave us the drivers cell number for the call back he was already there when we disembarked. We payed $200 but that was 6 months ago. Good luck hunting.
