Nixieh Posted April 26, 2019 #1 Share Posted April 26, 2019 Hi All, Last year, we cruised Southampton to the Med and found we got quite seasick crossing the Bay of Biscay even though it was August. We have cruised many times and don't normally get sick. Luckily it was a 14 day cruise so the 2 days we lost weren't the end of the world. We are doing a 4 day cruise to Cork (south coast of Ireland) from Southampton and I am wondering whether it is likely to be rough crossing the Irish sea. Would appreciate any views 🙂
GastroGnome Posted April 26, 2019 #2 Share Posted April 26, 2019 Depends on the time of year - and the vessel. The Bay of Biscay is notorious for rough crossings. The Irish Sea is not the Med - but it isn't the bay either. If you hit a bad patch of weather or are trying to cross in winter it will likely be rougher. And you will feel it more in a smaller vessel than a bigger one. But in a calm summer it should be fine.
John Bull Posted April 26, 2019 #3 Share Posted April 26, 2019 As per the Gnome's response the prospects of calm seas are excellent in summer, the chances of a rough crossing are significantly higher in winter (broadly late October thro March). But the weather and the seas are uncertain in these parts - you can be unlucky in summer or lucky in winter. JB

Rare LHT28 Posted April 26, 2019 #5 Share Posted April 26, 2019 we hit bad weather last week coming out of Cobh there was a storm front going through had to overnight there & still bumpy the next evening when we left the pilot could not get off the ship so got a free ride to Falmouth 😉 I do not think anyone can predict the weather One year in June the Irish sea was very rough from Dublin to Holyhead another year in May the ship was stuck in Dublin overnight due to a storm
