regands Posted May 14, 2019 #1 Share Posted May 14, 2019 I've looked over the deckplan for the Carnival Sunshine to see if they had rooms wide enough for wheelchairs, but from what I gather, they don't have wheelchair accessible rooms on this particular ship. Can anyone comment on this? It seems this would violate ADA policy.
Rare Essiesmom Posted May 14, 2019 #2 Share Posted May 14, 2019 She has a ton of HC cabins, most are interior. Carnival doesn't mark them on their deck plans. You ahve to get to them theough their special needs section on the website. but to see which they are, go to www.cruisedeckplans.com. Pull up Carnival, then Sunshine. Scroll down the cabin categories on the left side, and click on Handicap cabins. It will list them, and if there are any pictures, there will be a little camera icon next to the cabin number. Longstockingpippi1 Posted May 14, 2019 #3 Share Posted May 14, 2019 The first cruise my daughter and I took was on the Sunshine. I made the booking by phone and they gave me an accessible spa cabin. Unfortunately neither my daughter or I could use it, her because of her disability and me because she can't EVER be left unattended. But it was a nice cabin. What wasn't nice was that only one elevator took us there, so sometimes the wait was long. Nice ship.
meatloafsfan Posted May 16, 2019 #4 Share Posted May 16, 2019 (edited) The Carnival Sunshine doesn't have any cabins marked as "Fully Accessible" - only modified accessible. We have stayed in both of the aft extended wheelchair accessible balconies on deck 5. There is ample turnaround space, wider doors, no lips to the bathroom, a ramp to the (big, incredibly big) balcony, and there is indeed a roll in shower. The cabins were very convenient because they are close to the aft elevators and so much of what we enjoyed was on deck 5 (ocean plaza, java café, casino, shops, taste bar where they had a breakfast everyday and lunch on port days). They mostly worked for us; what makes those rooms not fully accessible is that the toilet is on an angle. So we brought our own commode chair so the angle of the toilet wouldn't be an issue. cruisinagain1960 Posted June 30, 2019 #5 Share Posted June 30, 2019 There are no FAC's on the Sunshine. And the AAC's all have a standard cabin door on them, so my scooter would not fit. I find this extremely frustrating, because obviously Carnival does not want scooters left in the hallway and since mine is a little wider, I certainly don't want to obstruct anyone from easily getting through the hallways. One thing I have found is if an FAC is not available, we try to get an AAC across from the elevator lobby. There are generally a corner or two where you can park and not be a hazard. And, to date, no one has said a word about the scooter being parked there overnight.
Longstockingpippi1 Posted July 1, 2019 #6 Share Posted July 1, 2019 The accessible balcony cabin my daughter and I were in on the 11th floor had a door wide enough to wheel the wheelchair through. It is a manual wheelchair if that makes a difference.

My mother's wheelchair measures 31 inches across and it easily fit through the doors of both of the accessible aft balcony cabins on 5.
cruisinagain1960 Posted July 3, 2019 #8 Share Posted July 3, 2019 This is good to know - the list I had with door widths showed all the AAC's as having standard width doors. It must be out of date : ))
Rare happychippy Posted October 29, 2023 #9 Share Posted October 29, 2023 A friend is looking to take her husband on a cruise, and I never realized how challenging it would be to find an accessible wheelchair friendly room. Do they hide them online so you have to call and request? here are the Carnival Sunshine Cabins that I have found that are accessible, but I have checked 4 sailings so far in March 2025 and none of these cabins show available. Inside 4D 5310, 5311, 6314, and 6341. 4C 3101, 3102, and 3103 4E 7118, 7119, and 7294. 4F 8304 and 8305. 4G 9130, 9132, 9117, 9119, 9136, and 9137. 4J 6105, 6106, 7103, 7104, 7105, and 7106. Oceanview 6B 2340 and 2341. Balcony 8A 6107 and 6108. 8M 5344 and 5345. 8T 11032.
kokopelli-az Posted October 29, 2023 #10 Share Posted October 29, 2023 For the accessible balconies, 6107 and 6108 are available. You need to choose the "Accessible Stateroom Needed" on the page that says "Qualify for a Special Rate?"
