go2somewhere Posted June 7, 2019 #1 Share Posted June 7, 2019 Is it possible to join a tour at the port in St. Kitts? We aren't sure if we want to do a tour yet, and we'd like to make the decision that day. Can we walk off the ship and find a tour to take us to Romney Manor, Brimstone Hill, and Timothy Hill? Or will we be out of luck if we don't plan in advance? I think there are 2 ships in port that day.
paul58 Posted June 8, 2019 #2 Share Posted June 8, 2019 There are many tour operators at the port offering their tours. Almost all offer tours to most of the places you have listed. Most will end at either the port or one of the beaches. I would guess that most cruisers will make their tour arrangements after they arrive because most of the operators are small operations and many do not have a social media or online presence. Find an operator that offers a tour that you are interested in, agree on a price & payment arrangement. The fort has a $10 entrance fee, some will include this and many do not. If they take you to one of the beaches arrange with your tour operator to pick you up for the return to the port area. NONE of the beaches are close enough to walk to. mystkittsdivebuddy Posted June 8, 2019 #3 Share Posted June 8, 2019 All our taxi drivers are licensed and are required to be "tour guides". Plenty of available drivers at the port, tell them what you want to do, negotiate a price and away you go. Or you can join an "island tour" and pay a fixed price. Note this applies to "roadtrip tours" only. You will not be able to book a train tour or a Catamaran tour on the day. Romney Manor has an entrance fee, the Fort has an entrance fee, check these on line. There is an advantage to being "first off the boat" these places get busy. As a suggestion for a "private tour" go to Romney Manor first, stay around an hour, then go on to Brimstone Hill fort. You may need a little more time here. Then get your driver to take you to Timothy Hill lookout and finally drop you at Shipwreck Bar in Friars bay. (This has good food, sunbeds, a snorkeling reef and is only 15 minutes back to the port). You can then arrange a time for your driver to pick you up, or, there will be plenty of taxis available at Shipwreck when it is time to get back to your ship. Everywhere will take US$ so don't worry about local currency, most places will take your credit card (most taxis are cash only). If you get EC$ in your change and would prefer US$ then just ask, it will not be a problem. Above all, don't try to pack in too much, relax and enjoy your day on our beautiful island. 4

nalatrixie74 Posted July 17, 2019 #5 Share Posted July 17, 2019 do the drivers wait for you while you are at your destinations? i would worry about being stranded somewhere.
paul58 Posted July 17, 2019 #6 Share Posted July 17, 2019 They will wait at all locations. The only exception may be at the beaches. Most tours will make a stop at one of the beach locations on the SE Peninsula of St Kitts. Before you begin your tour talk to the operator about your expectations, payment , time at the stops and the time of the return to the port. For the most part all of the tour/excursion operators want to exceed your expectations.
Rare MrSchwump Posted August 25, 2019 #7 Share Posted August 25, 2019 (edited) We just walked into town (2 minutes) and found a taxi who took us to the fort. They hang out at the Circus which is a rotary traffic circle. Extra fee for entry but the driver, Matey, was a great guy. Gave us a sight seeing tour to and from and was very friendly and personable. I think he changed us $50 total. That’s really all we wanted to do so it was perfect. Edited August 25, 2019 by MrSchwump
