Jezabel2924 Posted June 11, 2019 #1 Share Posted June 11, 2019 We will be in Qaqortoq this summer on our cruise. We are hoping to pick up a walking tour in town. Has anyone had luck doing this and do you remember the cost? Thanks!

No town based tourist people other than had been arranged with the ship as far as I remember. Having said that, it is not a big place and easy to just walk around independently. Some people from our table went on a guided walk from the ship which went around part of the lake behind the town and were not at all happy about it. That tour was advertised for keen walkers but apparently the ground under foot was very bad and the group had to turn back after a while, even though they were well clad regards the footwear you would need on countryside walks in the UK. We went on a home visit, where we were supplied with some lovely cakes and drinks and conversation about life in Greenland. The downside of that tour is that there was no transport supplied to the house and that, like most residential areas were up a fair incline. One member of our group had to return to the ship and another, who had recently completed cancer treatment struggled hard to get there. There is not a big tourist infrastructure in Greenland and you will find in most ports that any available tourist provisions have already been bought in by your cruise company and we were on a small ship - less than 30,000 tonne. Our tour was just for a couple of hours, but we wandered about after that. Edited June 15, 2019 by tring

We are on the Pacific Princess and they just put up two tours--one is the walk you described-which did not interest us. I think we will pick up a map showing where the Stone & Man sculptures are and walk around.

Rare Turtles06 Posted June 15, 2019 #6 Share Posted June 15, 2019 (edited) We had a port call there last summer. It's a very small place, and easy to walk around on your own. 😁 (photo by turtles06) Edited June 15, 2019 by Turtles06
