I keep seeing 'jitney' on the Nassua threads...what the heck are they and can 2 adults and 2 kids fit in one??

A jitney is a mini bus thats used as public transportation. It holds about 30 people and has a specific route. They run the same route all day long. 6am - 6pm. They are basically the way the locals move around the island, since traffic is so bad and parking is impossible.

Some jitneys (buses) run from downtown Nassau to the Cable Beach area, making it a cheap and easy option for tourist to get back and forth (or be dropped anywhere along the way). There are other routes, most will take you into the outlying suburban areas.

If you are looking for cheap transportation ($1pp) take the #10 jitney from downtown or in front of the McDonalds across from the Hilton. It will take you past Lighthouse Beach, drop you near Ardastra Gardens, stop at Arawak Cay's Fish Fry, Radisson Golf Club, Breezes, Kafe Kalik, Nassau Beach Hotel, Tennis Courts, Cafe Johnny Canoes, Wyndham, Radisson, Dicky Mo's and on to Sandals.

They run every few minutes and you can get off, or flag them down anywhere along thier route.

Thank you scubagirrl!!! You are fabulous!!! So if we go to the Wyndham or Nassua beach Hotel we should use one, correct?

Yes, the #10. You can pick it up downtown. They line up on one of the side streets across from the straw market on Bay Street, or you can walk another block and catch it in front of the McDonalds across from the British Colonial Hilton. Make sure it's the #10. It should have the numbers written on the front, back and sides of the bus.

Enter, tell the driver where you are going and sit down. When you approach, say "stop". (he'll probably remember). Pay as you leave, exact change only. No change given.

Cross the roadway and thru the hotel to the beach.

On the way back, just go out to the street in front of the hotel and flag down the bus. They'll be by every few minutes. Same side of the road as the hotel.
