Advice on storing luggage in Venice (post cruise)?

Hi Everyone - Was hoping you might have some tips on storing luggage in Venice.  We disembark in Venice after a 7 day cruise.  Post cruise, we are planning to stay one night in a hotel near St. Mark's Square.  We're starting to realize that it might be a hassle to bring our full set of luggage to the hotel for one night!  Does it make sense to store our luggage near the terminal, take a backpack for our one night stay, and then return for our luggage the next day before heading to airport?

 

I'm starting to get concerned about the crowds in Venice and the hassle with getting to St. Mark's Square/hotel with our luggage.  I'm also wondering if we will encounter long lines when trying to store our luggage.  Any advice would be invaluable!  Thanks!

There is a luggage storage facility (Deposito Bagagli) in Piazzale Roma next to the entrance of the People Mover - this is the one that we found most convenient.

How will you leave Venice?  If you're going by train it might make sense to use the left luggage office at the train station, if you're going to the airport by bus or taxi the Piazzale Roma location makes more sense.
