Cruisin' Chick Posted January 29, 2006 #26 Share Posted January 29, 2006 When we received our call, we had an inside on Plaza. I think I remembered that they were offering to refund the entire fare as well as giving us an upgrade. But we said no way on the delay.
1cruiselvr Posted January 29, 2006 #27 Share Posted January 29, 2006 When overbooked, Princess will call and ask cruisers to change their sail dates in return for an upgrade and/or shipboard credits. Booking a guarantee has nothing to do with whether or not they contact you for this type of offer. They are looking for any bookings they can move to another sail date which frees up the cabin for movement within the ship. Sometimes they need to start with a particular category because it's the one overbooked and it's the easiest way to resolve the overbooked problem. However, don't get paranoid about booking gtys. It doesn't mean they have permission to cancel your vacation. And you aren't more likely than anyone else to get this type of call. I have sailed six times with Princess, many as gty bookings. I have never gotten this call from Princess except once, and it was regarding my mother-in-law's inside handicap access cabin. They offered her an upgrade to a regular oceanview cabin, but unfortunately she required the HC cabin due to her mobility vehicle. Anyway, you can say no to their offer and you will still have your cabin waiting for you. There are folks that will jump on the offer and all will be well. HAPPY SAILING! Rare Coral Posted January 29, 2006 #28 Share Posted January 29, 2006 1cruiselvr is correct - they are not going to bump you with a guarantee cabin. Princess will call those in assigned cabins also - they make an offer and if enough people don't take it, they up the offer and keep calling. Eventually - enough people take the offer. Lynnees Posted January 29, 2006 #29 Share Posted January 29, 2006 It happened on the Tahitian Princess for the Dec 20th sailing. But the person it happened to got a free cruise with and upgrade and all the flight cancellations paid. Maybe you should ask them to upgrade the offer:cool: My DH and I are who chipsahoy is referring to here. We actually received two offers from Princess in the week prior to leaving. The first one we turned down but when they called the second time, the incentive was far too good to turn down. A complete refund (which means a free cruise) as well as an upgrade from a BB to an AC. And they are paying the difference in air fare. Our hotels also agreed to tranferring our bookings even though they were paid and locked in for that date. Very co-operative of them. We are going on March 20th. We're both lucky in that we can usually make these kind of last minute changes if we have to.
