Best beach excursion or what to do near where boat docks

Which is the nicest beach to go to for a few hours?  Looking at just doing an excursion.

 

Is there things to do where the boat docks?  Is there town?  If so, how close?

What are you looking for in a beach (other than that perfect beach with all the amenities, beautiful sand and island views, and no fellow cruisers)?

An excursion on your own/with an independent operator, or an excursion through the ship?

There are shops and restaurants near the ship, and Road Town is right there but not too much to see as it is a financial center...
