PandJ60 Posted August 6, 2019 #1 Share Posted August 6, 2019 I was wondering how far and how easy it is to walk to Mercado Negro from the cruise port? I do have mobility issues so is it more realistic to take a cab? Which restaurants near the fish market do you frequent?
SadieN Posted August 7, 2019 #2 Share Posted August 7, 2019 It's a relatively easy flat walk along the Malecon to the fish market. Use the Black Bridge to get to the Malecon, be careful of the water fountain. The market is fronted by an archway at the Malecon. I remember a few steps under the arch and, maybe a small one into the market itself. There are a few restaurants along the Malecon and a few more 'cityside' of the market. The ones along the Malecon are more touristy and the ones just outside are extremely local. For fish we like Mariscos Bahia de Ensenada on Riveroll and Primera. I just started using a cane and wondered how difficult this walk would be.
Roatanfans Posted September 1, 2019 #4 Share Posted September 1, 2019 It can be a long hot walk (easy, but long, and pavement may be uneven in places) there is usually a $3 bus that takes you from the port to the main shopping area- well worth it especially if you have mobility issues
jennybenny Posted September 8, 2019 #5 Share Posted September 8, 2019 It's a 10-15 minute walk (?). While it is an "easy" walk, flat, I don't know that I would be comfortable doing that walk with a cane. However, getting to a taxi is half the way. So, if you can manage that comfortably you could go the second half. The bus that takes you down town is right at the port where you get off the ship, and it will get you closer than doing the full walk.
