Just got my room assignment/could it be any worse?

I'm new at this, so bear with me..I know this has been written about many times before.

We just got our room assignment on RCI's Monarch of the Seas 2/13 sailing to Ensenada...room 3078 and I don't think you can get any closer to the elevator! Its the floor with the Vincent dining room and I am SO upset. I did the "oceanview guarentee" and I was never told that it could be next to the elevator (the reservationist did say it could be anywhere on the ship).

 

Let me know...I would appreciate any input including how to get my room changed...its our 25th wedding anniversary and I'm married to a very light sleeper!:eek:

Don't be upset at all. It's a good location. I'm sure there is a wall between you and the elevator, and the elevator faces away from your room. I have not been on the Monarch, but most of the ships are laid out the same way. I think you will like the fact that you aren't that far from the elevator, and I don't believe you will hear a thing.

 

PS, yes, you could have gotten closer, 3084.;)

Sleep with earplugs. I never travel without them. I've never been bothered by noise anywhere, and I sleep like a baby.

I'm confused with the logic but some things don't dawn on me until it's too late as well.

 

Now if you don't what to be in this room, call up whoever you booked this with and pay the extra money to upgrade to a category higher then a oceanview guarentee and pick the cabin you want from what's left, if there not already sold out.

 

Remember you paid less money on a gamble you would get something you would like and lost, I'd stay out of the casino if I were you ;)

Check the website and if there are cabins in the SAME category as the one you've been assigned, then request a cabin change.

 

Also, what did you not understand when the reservationist told you the cabin could be ANYWHERE on the ship?

Go on the Radiance class ships and stay in a JS at the back of the ship and walk to the elevator and then complain about where you are.

If you find yourself regretting being near the elevator, tag along behind someone really far forward or aft (do this after you have been there for a day and have figured out the layout of the ship).

 

Your room will most likely be nice and quiet, and you will be close to everything. I'd consider this room a *score*, especially for the guarantee price!

 

Just go and have fun. If you are worried about noise before you go, you are sure to hear every single little peep. If you are focused on being in a prime location for primo elevator space, you will feel blessed. Your call.... :)

Our last 3 cruises we had cabins next to the elevator and was not bothered one bit by either noise or foot traffic. One added bonus is that you are also near the stairs (if you don't mind walking). When you are inside the cabin the noise won't be a problem.

 

Please don't worry about it. Just enjoy yourself and celebrate your husband's birthday.

I have been in very similar locations to yours. We noticed no noise but liked the convienece to the elevators. Relax and enjoy your trip. We had a great time on the Monarch last March.

Our first cruise was on the NCL Sky, and we chose a room next to the end of the hallway, adjacent to us was a room that was not a cabin and our TA was not sure what it was used for. We found out the last night...... it was where they literally threw everybody's luggage:mad: We never heard the elevators, but we got very little sleep that last night. Never again.

 

We had an aft corner suite on the Oosterdam last year and loved it. This time we're in an outside on the Vision, but we're on the ship.

We ALWAYS try to get a cabin near the elevator - very convenient not to have to walk those awful hallways!! Not been disturbed yet!!!!

We have booked our upcoming cruise with our cabins close to the elevators. I think it is a plus! I would rather have one there than an aft cabin!

Thanks for your replies...and here's my lame excuse....I tried to book a room on this cruise for several days and no rooms were available...I happen to call one night and they said they had one Ocean View Guarentee room available, but I had to buy it immediately. Since I was new at this cruising thing, I grabbed it without knowing all the details - I'll admit this was a mistake, but it was super late and I think the reservationist wanted to go home because he rushed through all the details. He told me my documents would arrive via e-mail confirming everything. The first thing I noticed we got was a late seating...he said there was a "possibility" we would get early, but we didn't. No big deal. I made the comment "as long as the ocean view room isn't next to the anchor or elevator." He chuckled and said "just get the cancellation insurance plan and cancel if you don't like the room" So I bought the best insurance plan never thinking I would have to use it. This room assignment thing isn't a deal breaker = and yes, I could be stuck at work. I just hate being "duped" by a cruise line in to getting the worse room on the deck, but from what you have said, it doesn't look so bad after all. And yes, I have requested a room change, but before I get offered another room, I posted this to see what everyone else thought.

 

And now RC has offered me the Grand Suite at 1300.00 more...I don't think I'm interested in paying that much for a 4 day cruise. Although my husband said "hey, why not, its our 25th w. anniversary." Must be why I married him...he's the best! (but I still don't think we'll do it)

We PICKED our room just to be next to the elevator. I hated being at the back of the ship on our first cruise and having to walk what seemed like a mile sometimes to our room. I think you did well!

I just looked at the Monarch's deck plan. I was expecting your cabin to be smack-dab next door to the elevator, but it isn't THAT close. I reserved an inside cabin on deck 3 on the March 13-17 Monarch. On Dec. 31st, I was able to get an oceanview guarantee for the same price. I had visions of getting the very front of the ship on deck 2, but was quite pleased to get #8062 on deck 8. :)

I was looking at the deck plan, as we have 2078 on an upcoming ship and next to our room is a 'white' space.....any ideas what that might be? I hope it's not a luggage room as the other poster had!:eek:

 

Otherwise, I was pretty happy to be near the elevators. We were in a JS Aft on our last cruise. Course I loved that too. I'm easy to please, if I'm on a ship going somewhere I'm pretty much happy!:)

We were at the front of the Radiance in one of the cabins with the slanted outside wall (look at a picture of this type ship). THAT was a hike, worse than aft. At least with the sloped space we had room to put all our luggage on the shelf between the round porthole and the regular vertical wall. Or get an allover suntan when the sun shone at a certain angle. :)

Honestly -- why don't more people wear earplugs to bed when they're traveling? I've had a hotel room with paper-thin walls in the heart of Rome next to a discoteque and never heard a peep. Slept like a baby.

 

Just a suggestion for people who are worried about noise at night!
