is it easy to get from the ship to the Cable car on your own and is it best to have purchase tickets in advance online

From port you can find lots of Taxi that will offer full city tour as well as point-point fares.   Also there is the option for a taxi to the top of the Cable car by car and choice to return down by car or cable car.   Tickets for cable car can be purchased there. 

 

The day we went the cables where closed so we took the cab to top and a wonderful short walkaround and view then back to the city entrance.

 

Very easy with Taxi, our driver was a local, drove full-time and actually lived near the top of the hill and even pointed out his house, he made a good living, LOL
