sunray Posted January 31, 2006 #1 Share Posted January 31, 2006 We are going to book the September 2nd cruise on the Glory. On my past two cruises, I have booked guarantees (one inside, one balcony). On this cruise they are running a special upgrade from an 8A to an 8C. Which side of the ship do you prefer and why? Thanks!
rdrseller Posted January 31, 2006 #2 Share Posted January 31, 2006 I have stayed on both sides and enjoyed both. I think just being on the ship makes either side a win win situation.!! Have fun on your cruise!
miss meow Posted January 31, 2006 #3 Share Posted January 31, 2006 On kind of the same subject - which end would be better to have a cabin in regards to ship motion, etc.......the bow end or the stern/aft end? Looks like our cabin is wayyyyyyyyyyy at the end of the hall on the bow end...so just curious. Thanks!

Looks like our cabin is wayyyyyyyyyyy at the end of the hall on the bow end...so just curious. Thanks! I prefer the middle. In the bow you tend to hear and maybe feel the waves smack the hull as the ship sails. You also hear the thrusters and the anchor. The stern tends to have a bit of vibration from the engines and you also have thrusters back there too.
Iamthesea Posted January 31, 2006 #5 Share Posted January 31, 2006 How about in the middle right over the boutique - Deck 6? Is there noise from the shops? This stateroom is also above and at the very end of the boutiques before you get to the casino. Please tell me there will not be a smoke problem! To the OP, what itinerary are you going on? We will be on the Western and have chosen the starboard. I would think the starboard for the Eastern as well.

Let me know how this location is when you get back...I have one of the 8A's right around that area on my October cruise. You shouldn't have problems with smoke from the Casino on the deck below. I'm thinking that the shops can't be too noisy, either.

cruisingangel Posted February 1, 2006 #9 Share Posted February 1, 2006 We like mid ship port side. We have been in an aft cabin and did not like the vibration and ash on the balcony.
cheshyrkat Posted February 1, 2006 #10 Share Posted February 1, 2006 I read a review where someone had a room above the casino and it was filled with smoke day and night! Oh, really?? I was in 6321 on Conquest in September and we didn't have any issues like that at all! I wonder if it was because someone nearby in their hall smoked or if the previous week's occupants had smoked. I know that in the past I have noticed the hallway smelled faintly smoky when people in the cabins are smoking. Who knows! I suppose we'll all see eventually. cawhite Posted February 1, 2006 #11 Share Posted February 1, 2006 It's nice to choose a deck that has staterooms on the deck above it, and on the deck below it. You really don't have to worry about noise then. I agree that mid-ship is nice too, although those aft cabins are highly sought after!!

racegrrl Posted February 1, 2006 #13 Share Posted February 1, 2006 We just got off the Glory and had probably the best cabin on the ship! #9230, Lido (8D). Port side balcony forward. Towards the front, but still close to elevators and stairs - not too close to hear traffic noise. Same deck as a lot of inexpensive fun (pools, hot tubs, buffets), and still a quick ride down to the bars, shows and casino. There was quite a bit of motion there, but there was everywhere on this cruise. I like to be rocked to sleep anyways! We also liked that we were sandwiched between rooms both above and below. Very quiet. Shops closed pretty early, but 11 everynight. Should be no noise issues from these at all. Enjoy the upgrade!

wercruzin Posted February 1, 2006 #16 Share Posted February 1, 2006 must have some type of window. I spent 7 days in an inside cabin.. Damn.. now that was dark as heck!!! The bow is a little noisey when they drop anchor or use the thrusters.. otherwise it was ok..
cruise crazy mick Posted February 2, 2006 #17 Share Posted February 2, 2006 Anywhere on the ship is the best place. Thanks! I always book inside guarantee to save some cash, I always end up with a 6a French doors. I like my cabins Center and lower, the closer to the exit of the ship and center as to quicker to move to one side or the other. Also anything close to an Elevator is a plus for me. grampasgrumpy Posted February 2, 2006 #19 Share Posted February 2, 2006 On my first and only cruise to date I had two very specific criteria for cabin selection, which I will use when I go on another, hopefully in September... 1. between the port and starboard side... 2. and between the bow and stern :p

The cruise I did smell smoke in the hall was on Elation. That area on Conquest was a nice, central location. My next cabin will be a little closer to the forward elevators. The halls on that ship are incredibly long. I'm looking forward to having a balcony this time!
