wl2cruise Posted February 1, 2006 Author #8 Share Posted February 1, 2006 New captain is Rolv CHR. Olaussen. As far as how she looks, She is showing her age. I havent smelled any sewage smell in any part of this ship. Still feel the vibration throughout the ship. No Johnny rockets. I havent been in the casino. WiFi works. In my opinion this boat ispast her prime enjoy radiance & Voyager class better. Noticed alot of armed coast guard aboard as we set sail last evening. will post later. Happy ks Posted February 1, 2006 #10 Share Posted February 1, 2006 I've been on her 3 times now. The only time I've ever smelled anything obnoxious was when we stepped off the ship into Ensenada. It smells like Tijuana. It's a great ship for the short market, but you can't expect the same things as a newer and larger ship. We have always had a great time on her. rubrrick Posted February 1, 2006 #11 Share Posted February 1, 2006 It sounds like the sewer smell has been taken care of. If the smell returns while docked in Ensenada, it comes from Ensenada!! There will probably always have a bit of vibration, although most nights she is down to one engine to conserve fuel, and the only time that she is running more engines is when she is coming into or out of a port. I am looking forward to being back aboard her in just over a month. Rick
ldasaro Posted February 1, 2006 #12 Share Posted February 1, 2006 Just got off the Monarch Monday. Had a great time on this ship but there is a big problem with the sewer. Horrible ordor from most public restrooms and some of them were not even open. Also, toilets in our cabins were not working Saturday morning. The ship was clean and the food was very good in the dining room as well as the service. The best I've had on this ship in the past three years. Same ol story with the Monarch-some say the smell is unbearable, others say no smell at all. I have been on her 3 times, the fourth is next month. The only time I had smell issues was on the lower decks (deck 2, cat. I). On decks 8 & 10, no smell.

zuscruiserz Posted February 1, 2006 #16 Share Posted February 1, 2006 Thx for posting live wl2cruise! Many of us appreciate it as we're due to cruise on Monarch soon, and have heard some not-so-good things about her recently. Hope the sewer problem is fixed on deck 5 - have you been on that deck yet and noticed anything? For the short cruise itinerary, I'm sure Monarch takes a beating, she gets 2x as many people on her in a week that the 7-day ships do. How are the activities, are they varied? Is there stuff to do while the ship is in port, or do you wait til everyone gets back on for the activities to start? Hope you're having a great time, ignore the small mishaps and just be glad you're not at work:D ! Thx again for posting this thread!!!

Merion_Mom Posted February 2, 2006 #19 Share Posted February 2, 2006 I'm sure it must be because of the previous Captain's sudden death. Probably part of a routine investigation.
rubrrick Posted February 2, 2006 #20 Share Posted February 2, 2006 I'm sure it must be because of the previous Captain's sudden death. Probably part of a routine investigation. Normally Carol is really right. However, on the Monarch, the Coast Guard, or Navy is very heavy on the bridge in San Diego and Los Angeles. Both harbors have strategic areas, and I believe all cruise ships have extra security. Why??? We cruise into San Diego.......within yards of the Ronald Reagan. She is the mightest carrier of all time.............so far.
