Closing Decks on Regatta Cruises to Alaska

We have sailed to Alaska twice on Regatta, but have a concern.  On these cruise outside decks, including Deck 5, were often closed off due to weather even though conditions seemed fine to us.  If you have taken a Regatta cruise to Alaska this year, what has your experience been?

One big reason for closing off decks is due to the winds and the effect on the doors, doorways and the interior spaces adjacent to them.  Winds pushing against a heavy door can be a safety factor for any passenger or crewman attempting to open and/or close them.  Plus the wind-tunnel effect into the hallways of winds passing through a small opening.

We have sailed the Regatta in Alaska twice in August.  Thank you for your responses.  The reason I raise this question is that we love walking the decks after dinner at at other times while the ship is underway, especially since the decks are virtually empty then.  My observation, based on 4 other Oceania cruises and an Azamara cruise on a nearly identical R Class ship, is that the Regatta decks were closed when this would not have been the case under similar conditions on the other ships. The policy seems to have been different on Regatta.  Knowing whether other cruisers have experienced this (or not) will be helpful to us as we consider our next Alaska cruise.  We love Oceania and just completed a NYC-Montreal cruise on Riviera where it was both rainy and windy but decks remained open.  We just haven't been happy regarding this one issue on Regatta.

Efforts which are for the common good, such as continual maintenance,of the ship , MUST remain at the sole discretion of the Master.

It may be that during the Cruise before yours, poor weather prevented outside maintenance, so they had to catch up during your voyage.

Perhaps a dissapointment, but after all, other decks are still walkable, so please don't  take it personally.

I have not done Alaska  but rarely were the decks closed on other sailings  except when it may have presented a dangerous situation with high winds & heavy seas

We have walked around the pool deck  & some nights it was quite windy  & water sloshing out of the pool

but doors were not blocked

I guess weather condition would be the biggest factor

Our last cruise the decks were closed for obvious reasons 😉
