Help choosing Balcony Room

We have never cruised on Princess before, mainly Holland America and Royal Caribbean.  

 

Thinking about booking a cruise next October 2020 for a California Coastal and was wondering which deck for a balcony on the Royal.  Are there any "secret" rooms that are larger or better than the others?  Would probably book a deluxe because we like having a couch in the room.  We do spend some of our time relaxing in our stateroom.

 

Just looking for general information.

The midship "obstructed" balconies have some of the biggest balconies with very little obstruction. The obstruction is when you look directly down. 

Also, the very forward balconies are enormous with metal rather than glass barriers, so they're also technically obstructed.

Go for the aft rear facing balcony if you can get one - they go pretty fast.....they are the best!!

I looked at those, we love aft balconies but they are already sold out for the cruise we are looking to book.

I would consider E409.   Had this one on Majestic Princess (same class ship) and even though it is sold as an obstructed (therefore cheaper) there is no obstruction looking out.   You do look down onto an outside area but this is not a smoking area.   Also has a larger balcony than normal.   Photos below.
