HAL Eurodam or Nieuw Statendam

Greetings!

 

My wife and I (mid-60's) are considering a Christmas cruise this year. Celebrity has always been our cruise line of choice but we thought about trying a HAL cruise this time. There are two cruises that fit our schedules and both seem to be very nice ships...The Eurodam and the Nieuw Statendam. We would try to secure an oceanview or verandah cabin. 

 

The ports of call are not that important to us on this trip. We would primarily like to enjoy the ship and all it has to offer (food, beverage, shows, meeting new people at dinner and around the ship). I guess we are looking for something laid-back, having some options for entertainment and having a great time on board the ship. 

 

We would appreciate any information regarding how these two ships compare and contrast, cabin options (ocean view vs verandah), and the best option for a first time HAL cruise.

 

Also, does HAL compare favorably to Celebrity?

Haven’t tried Hal yet, but considering them since they banned smoking on balconies. However some Hal ships allow smoking in the casino, and this would be a deciding factor against that ship. One of the reasons we have been regular Celebrity cruisers is the smoke free interior of their ships.

Something to be aware of if this is important to you.

If you like Celebrity I think the N.S. would be more to your liking.

I’d personally try the NS as well.  (Been on the sister ship, Koningsdam & loved it). I’ve been on the Eurodam several times too but would go for the newer ship the NS.

Not quite an Elite+ Celebrity cruiser. Size, dining choices, artwork ... NS will feel familiar.  It's also newer and to me at least, I think the state rooms are among the best looking at sea (for the money).

NS would be more similar to Solstice class Celebrity ships. I've sailed on both Eurodam and Celebrity Eclipse - their ship layout was a bit similar but the Eclipse had a more contemporary feel. So I imagine Nieuw Statendam is closer to the Eclipse. But both Eurodam and Nieuw Statendam are going to provide a nice cruise for you and your wife.
