Venus4NU Posted November 29, 2019 #1 Share Posted November 29, 2019 We are looking at doing something different when we stop in Tortola. On our bucket list is to visit all the National Parks. Virgin Islands National Park is on St. John's and it looks like a very short ferry ride (12 miles). Has anyone done this? Best transportation to use? If at all possible we would like to piggy back Virgin Gorda too BUT the National Park is the top priority. This will be in February on NCL Breakaway. We are in port on a Tuesday 8am to 6pm. We have been to Tortola two other times but both times we were in port only 5 hours so didn't venture off the island and instead did CGB and an island tour. We booked this cruise because it is a full 10 hours on Tortola.
blue_water Posted November 29, 2019 #2 Share Posted November 29, 2019 Ferry service between Road Town, Tortola and Cruz Bay, STJ is not currently available. You can check again before your cruise... Virgin Gorda and STJ are in opposite directions and too far apart for a one-day excursion. Since you booked this cruise because it gives you 10 hours in port at Tortola I would instead consider a nice day on Virgin Gorda with a rental car, or perhaps a catamaran sail that hits VG, Cooper Island, and a couple snorkel spots. The islands of the BVI are unique. Maybe book your next cruise with a longer St Thomas stop and visit STJ from there. Much easier, and just ~$37 to get to Cruz Bay from Red Hook, STT on your own. marysb Posted December 4, 2019 #3 Share Posted December 4, 2019 There is a National Park at The Baths on Virgin Gorda. Devils Bay National Park is adjacent to the Baths. It is a nice hike down to the Devils Bay Beach, then through the boulder caves to The Baths beach. https://www.bvitourism.com/devils-bay-national-park. This is a very doable day while in Tortola. And fun!
