Best Place to eat and shop

What is the best place to eat and shop within walking distance from the port? I want authentic food! TIA!

It will take at least 30 minutes (about 1.5 miles) to walk to the beginning of the malecon, main place for restaurants and shopping. Taxi is $8 each way for four people.

 

Otherwise food,  bars and shopping at the man-made port area.

There are a couple of smaller restaurants in Nuevo Mahahual , right outside the cruise port. 

Ki Ha on the street leading from the port has great ice cream.  Definitely a must stop on return from a Native Choice tour.  Even coming back from the malecon.

 

There's a little pizza joint also along the way.  Que Pollo along the main road to Mahahual and the malecon has excellent Mexican style BBQ Chicken, what the El Pollo Loco chain tried to be in the beginning.
