Tarragona

Instead of Barcelona, we will end our Jewel of the Seas cruise in Tarragona. I've a  spare week from our disembarkation there until we head to Paris and am starting to plan how to spend those 7 days. We will either spend a night or two in Barcelona, or go directly to Madrid via rail or plane. Regardless, what are the options for getting to Barcelona aside from a transfer via RCCL.

Thanks!

Renfe train. Local ones ( which are rather packed) take slightly over an hour and cost 8€.  For more touristy sites go to Passeig de Gracia station (rather than Sants). It's near Gaudi buildings and not that far from plaza Catalynia

You could also consider staying a couple of nights in Tarragona.

One day for exploring Tarragona, the other for exploring Reus.

Reus is an easy 15/20 mins away from Tarragona by bus or train,  and has a number of Modernist buildings worth seeing and without the crowds in Barcelona.

Tarragona is worth a day.

Some tourists will come from Barcelona on day trips.

Read about both and see photos on Tripadvisor.

If you decide to do this, do have lunch at La Cuineta in Tarragona. Beside the Cathedral. Absolutely the best meals we have ever eaten in Spain. Ate there twice and were sorry we were in Reus at lunchtime on the third day!  Lots of choices, and a fixed price for lunch, a total bargain.

Still has wonderful Tripadvisor reviews.
