skatie Posted December 30, 2019 #1 Share Posted December 30, 2019 We are planning on a casual beach day in Tortola in either Great Cane Beach or Brewers Bay. I've read up and viewed videos on the Safari Taxi's and it does look adventurous with the narrow and twisty switchback roads to cross over to get to the other side of the island! I'm concerned that my friend will be too freaked out with the open air, bench seating and narrow roads and not want to take the ride. Is it possible to hire a regular taxi van or car - being closed in may make her feel more comfortable? There are four of us - anyone done both safari and regular taxi and have an opinion and any idea what the cost for a taxi van/car would be vs the safari which I know is $8 per person each way. Thanks!
blue_water Posted December 30, 2019 #2 Share Posted December 30, 2019 Yes there will be sedan and van taxis located near the cruise park. You can ask the nice ladies at the information center to direct you to one of these. The published fares from 2010 are still in effect and apply to all taxis, although the private taxis may charge a little more... https://www.bvitourism.com/sites/default/files/Cruise-Pier-Taxi-Tariff.pdf

It seems like none of the ship’s excursions except the beaches are open to 2 year olds. The other two children aren’t old enough to snorkel yet. Which beach would be best for us... one with some shade and easy access?
blue_water Posted January 7, 2020 #4 Share Posted January 7, 2020 I would suggest Cane Garden Bay, that is where most of your fellow cruise mates will go for a beach, but it is a large bay with several restaurants and lounge/umbrella rentals. We like Myett’s for its location but you have choices. A resident there reports decent snorkeling further out on the west end along the rocks. If snorkeling is a priority Brewers Bay is probably a better choice, there is one beach bar and lounges and natural shade. Both beaches are serviced by taxi...
