awinte2 Posted January 15, 2020 #1 Share Posted January 15, 2020 Does anyone know where we go to pay the 10.00 for the ability to text on the ship. I am assuming guest services.
Rare mking8288 Posted January 15, 2020 #2 Share Posted January 15, 2020 (edited) Download & pre-install the free app first, before your cruise "Norwegian" - sign in and find/open the phone/messenger sub-menu, review & click to buy, easy DIY. Same app used fleet-wide. Guest Services will refer you to the posted office hour for the iCafe manager if you need help or has any problems. david_sobe Posted January 16, 2020 #4 Share Posted January 16, 2020 Please don't flame me for asking a stupid question. This app allows unlimited calls from the ship as well as text messages? Seems pretty cheap for that. Is this also the app that allows you to keep in touch with others on the ship via phones?
flcraigs5 Posted January 16, 2020 #5 Share Posted January 16, 2020 Hi David, No question is stupid 🙂 that is to text others on the ship through the app. It works well to stay in touch if you have older kids or a group on the ship with you. Rare mking8288 Posted January 16, 2020 #6 Share Posted January 16, 2020 @david_sobe - wishful thinking, for real. This is the "App" to use onboard to keep in touch with others, for your convenience, as long as a fee is paid. Unlimited calls/SMS onboard - inTRAship to other registered & activated devices running the App only for a one-time flat fee of $9.95 per device ... extra/nominal charges applied for others on land or cellular numbers, etc. (not 95% sure if it is still available, last year - it was rather choppy & full of static, very poorly designed VoIP, unlike Skype ...) Calls to landline/mobile # was 79 cents a minute and $3.99 per minute if calling direct from the stateroom; in-bound calls, land-to-ship at a much higher rate, doubled that of $3.99 as I recall - charged to calling party's credit card number given. Two devices would be $19.90 to stay "in touch" - an unique 8 digits number assigned onboard. Without it, you cannot even call Guest Services or Restaurant Reservations while on the ship (use the stateroom or onboard IP phone extensions). No WiFi minutes/MB data used, as it works over inTRAnet signal.

You need to register 2 devices to stay in touch and you can call the assigned number and they pick up the phone. Makes sense. Heard all about this but never used it before. Most likely will try this out on our cruise next month.
